How to Update Aadhaar for Minors: The UIDAI has made it easy and free to update a child’s Aadhaar details. Parents can visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre to update biometric or demographic information for minors.
Here is a general guide on the process, which varies depending on the type of update and the child’s age:
1. Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU)
A child’s biometrics (fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph) must be updated twice as they grow:
- First MBU: When the child turns 5 years old.
- Second MBU: When the child turns 15 years old.
Key Points for MBU:
- These mandatory updates are Free of Cost if done within the specified age windows (5-7 years and 15-17 years).
- You need to take the child and the required documents to an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
2. General Demographic/Other Updates
If you need to update demographic details like the child’s Name, Date of Birth (DOB), Address, Mobile Number, or Email ID, the process is:
Step 1: Locate an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre or ASK
- Use the official UIDAI website or app to find a nearby centre.
Step 2: Book an Appointment (Optional but Recommended)
- You can often book an appointment online on the UIDAI website to save time at the center.
Step 3: Visit the Centre with the Child and Parent/Guardian
- The child must be present for the update.
- The parent or legal guardian must also accompany the child.
Step 4: Fill the Aadhaar Update Form
- Fill in the required details on the form for the specific update you need.
Step 5: Submit Documents and Parent/Guardian Biometric Authentication
- Submit the original and a copy of the required supporting documents.
- One of the parents/guardians will need to provide their Aadhaar card and authenticate the request (usually through biometrics).
Step 6: Biometric/Demographic Update and Acknowledgement
- The operator will capture the necessary data (demographic changes or biometrics if it’s an MBU).
- You will receive an Acknowledgement Slip with the Update Request Number (URN) to track the status.
Documents Typically Required:
The documents required will depend on the detail you are updating, but generally include:
- Child’s Aadhaar Card (if updating an existing one).
- Parent’s Aadhaar Card (for linking and authentication).
- Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) for the update. Common documents include:
- Child’s Birth Certificate (mandatory for DOB updates).
- Valid Proof of Relationship (PoR) document (e.g., Child’s Birth Certificate where the parent’s name is mentioned).
- School ID Card or a Certificate of Identity from a recognised educational institution (for Name/DOB/Photo updates).
- Parent’s Address Proof (if updating the child’s address).
It is highly recommended to check the official UIDAI website for the most current list of acceptable documents for the specific update you require, as guidelines can change.
